In Harriman’s Wake: A 24-night epic Alaska Cruise

Edward Henry Harriman organized an epic journey to Alaska in 1899 as part of a scientific effort to explore Alaska’s waterways and wilderness. That adventure led to many new discoveries and has become part of explorer folklore. You can re-live this historical journey aboard Cruise West’s Spirit of Oceanus. The 24-night cruise starts in Vancouver and ends in Anchorage. Along the way you will see some of the most spectacular scenery around and learn a lot of natural history in the process. The cruise isn’t cheap, but it could be a once in ... [read more]

Discounted Cruises for Military Personnel and Veterans

I would imagine that if you spent your career in the Navy the last thing you would want to do is to spend a holiday floating at sea on a cruise ship, but I could be wrong. In honor of those who have served the country through military service and in honor of Veterans Day, there are some steeply reduced prices on cruises from Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean this week.

Abercrombie & Kent has a reputation in the cruise industry as being a cruise line that offers outstanding voyages for the adventure traveler. Just about every cruise they operate looks outstanding to me, but if I had to just pick one I would go with their African Safari cruise. The World’s Fastest Cruise Ship

The trend these days is to build cruise ships that are roughly the size of Singapore. In the cruise industry, bigger is better. But not everyone digs sharing a ship with the population of a small country. Some of us like to feel the wind whipping through our hair and the boat pounding through the chop of the sea. Some of us like speed.

There is no cruise ship out there faster than than Royal Olympia Cruises’ Olympia Voyager. With four engines each running at 13,000-horsepower, and experience cruising at 31 knots per hour (that’s ... [read more]

Christmas on a Caribbean Cruise

Dear Santa,

I’ve been a very good boy this year. Just the other day I helped an old lady across the street. It is a pity that the 18-wheel truck didn’t see her. She was such a nice old lady.

Anyway, I wanted to let you know that this year I will not be spending Christmas at home so you’re going to have to deliver my presents elsewhere. My parents booked us all on a Carnival Cruise to the Caribbean. I think that is somewhere near Kansas but I trust that you and Rudolph will be ... [read more]

Hop your way across the Hawaiian Islands

The 10-day tour takes you to some of the more out of the way Hawaiian destinations and offers up sights that are one of a kind. Starting at $330, this is one deal that you shouldn’t let blow away.

Premium Cruises to the Caribbean at Inflatable Alligator Prices

It is possible to go on a voyage to the Caribbean for next to nothing. For example, you could strap on a pair of infant water wings and let the tide take you out to sea. You could also strap yourself on the back of one of those inflatable alligators. These are both options for the bargain traveler, but they fall well short of the premium cruises being offered by Celebrity for next to nothing.

4-Night Bahamas Cruise from Orlando (Kind of)

Having grown up in the shadows of the Magic Kingdom, I can safely say that Orland, Florida is not, in fact, located on the ocean nor is it a port city for cruise ships. That isn’t stopping the kids at Southwest Airlines and Carnival Cruises, however. They are advertising a 4-night cruise to the Bahamas leaving from Port Canaveral, which is, in fact, a little more than an hour’s drive from Orlando depending on how many armadillos you encounter along the way.

Cruise Ships have Godmothers

I’m still relatively new to the world of cruises and I continue to learn new things about the industry every day. Today I discovered that cruise ships are often given “Godmothers”. For example, the Godmother of Carnival Cruise’s MS Sovereign of the Seas is former first lady Rosalyn Carter. The new Norwegian Pearl has tapped entertainer Rosie O’Donnell to be its Godmother and if you take a voyage on the new Carnival Freedom you can take comfort knowing that Kathy Ireland is the ship’s Godmother.

This isn’t called the Ultimate Caribbean Cruise for Nothing

Unlike a lot of cruise lines (I’m talking about you, Carnival), Celebrity Cruises actually has some decent names for their ships. Take the Zenith, for example.
