Sure, part of the reason these things are so cheap right now is because of the so-called hurricane season, but that’s mostly a myth. Most of these resorts only have one storm through their area like every 10 or 15 years or so, and even then they know they are approaching many days in advance. So the chances of actually being in the path of one are very slim, and if it’s coming you can fly home early anyway.

Your reward for taking a chance on something like this is rock-bottom prices and fantastic service. These places are open all year round but they are less busy in late summer and fall, so you are the big winner if you book then. Personally, I think it would be fun if a hurricane was heading towards me. These resorts are all made to withstand them anyway, so you’d have a nice place to sleep while you were helping the locals with the relief effort, which would be rewarding and interesting in and of itself.
