Sarasota, Florida – Vacation Packages

By Miss Julie | December 24th, 2006

Sarasota, Florida is known as “The Cultural Coast of Florida” for good reason. Aside from having the most beautiful beach in the world, Sarasota boasts over 100 art galleries, world class ballet, opera, music, films, and museums. This playground has ample shopping, sunbathing, dining and swimming opportunities. Sarasota is also the site of the nation’s first golf course, built in 1885. The Crowley Museum and Nature Center documents this and other pioneering efforts in the area. Check out the Historic Spanish Point to view gardens, archaeological exhibits and a well-preserved homestead. Bring your hiking boots to check nature trails that suround the area.

Other items of historical note include the Ringling Circus influence on Sarasota as it was the winter home for John Ringling and his wife. The couple are credited with turning the area into the cultural haven it is now, helping to create the largest museum/university complex in the USA. After relaxing at the beach, The Florida West Coast Symphony, Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, SU/Ringling Center for the Cultural Arts and Sarasota Ballet of Florida ensure that you’ll be able to catch a world-class performance year-round on the Cultural Coast.
