Sanibel Island, Florida – Vacation Packages

By Miss Julie | December 24th, 2006

Experience Florida “the way it used to be” with unspoiled beaches, crystal blue waters and a quiet, unhurried pace. The shores of Sanibel Island are lined with exotic seashells, making this one of the most renowned areas in the world for shelling. Walk along the waterfront as lush foliage and coconut palms sway behind you. Squint into the setting sun and observe pelicans, sandpipers and herons in search of supper. The lighthouse, Point Ybel Light, at Lighthouse Beach has stood since 1884, when the entire island was a nature preserve. There is still a renowned wildlife refuge and bird sanctuary on the island.

Other popular public beaches include Bowman’s Beach and Blind Pass, where the two islands of Sanibel and Captiva meet. On the water you can swim, snorkle, fish or simply relax. In town you can view numerous shows, wander through galleries and shop to your heart’s content. If you’re in search of more physical pursuits, pick up your golf club or racket and head to the greens.
