Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – Vacation Packages

By Miss Julie | December 24th, 2006

The Dominican Republic shares the Caribbean’s second largest island, Hispaniola (between Cuba and Puerto Rico), with Haiti. Located on the eastern half of the island, the Dominican Republic, with an area of 19,376 square miles, is flanked by the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Caribbean Sea to the south. Its central portion is sculpted by four great mountain ranges with peaks over 10,000 ft. Its coastline varies from rocky cliffs to sandy beaches. Reefs and ancient wrecks surround much of the shoreline.

Punta Cana started as the dream and personal challenge of Frank Rainieri, developer and hotel owner recently awarded Hotelier of the Year by the Caribbean Hotel Association. Today Punta Cana is the jewel of the east with sapphire waters and endless horizons. It has a picturesque international airport that welcomes you to a destination that respects the ecological balance of its environment. Fundación Ecológica Punta Cana is a non-profit organization that oversees a 10 million square meter natural reserve on land donated by the Punta Cana Group. This private project includes a garden of tropical fruit trees and offers visitors a chance to discover the flora and fauna of the region. The beaches along the eastern coast are among the most beautiful you are likely to discover. Bavaro, with its string of resort hotels, parks and golf course, is a short distance from Punta Cana airport.
