Grrrrr like a Tiger with these Oslo, Norway Vacation Packages

By Bob | March 14th, 2007

tiger.jpgI’ve always been a bit curious about the name of Norway’s capital. Oslo rolls off the tongue. It is short, sweet and simple. In other words, it is not like Burkina Faso’s capital. It is no Ouagadougou (try saying that ten times or at least correctly once).

According to Wikipedia, the name Oslo is the subject of much debate. There are some that believe it comes from the name of a large farm during the time of settlement. There are others that say it refers to the landscape or to gods. One thing that can’t be disputed is that it was coined the City of Tigers around 1870 by the author Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. The tiger is still associated with the city today.

Another thing that can’t be disputed is that Oslo is well worth a visit. There are other cities in Norway that are prettier and friendlier, but none offer the culture, shopping, food and nightlife that you can find in Oslo.

Like most of Scandinavia, Oslo is not cheap. In fact it is bloody expensive. That is why you should think about visiting there on a vacation package. Continental has a few that are worth growling about.
