Athens & Mykonos, Greece – Vacation Packages

By Miss Julie | December 24th, 2006

The capital of Greece, cradle of democracy, birthplace of Western Civilization – Athens is a vibrant city where old and new co-exist. The majestic Parthenon rises above the city, its ancient glory still visible in the timeworn stone, and the National Archaeological Museum holds countless treasures from Athens’ Golden Age.

Athens is a bustling metropolis that always has something going on. It’s a city entrenched in the past but surrounded by the future. Late spring and early fall will find nice weather, ample accommodation and relatively clear beaches. With a good tourism infastructure in place after the 2004 Olympics, it may be time to give Athens another chance. Add on cruise to Mykonos – and more white sand and clear seas await.

On Mykonos, curving streets were designed to confuse attacking pirates in the 16th century. Today, the pleasant, narrow, cobble-painted streets of two-story white-washed homes and shops confuse tourists, rather than pirates. But with such an enchanting environment, who really cares? The variety of Mykonos shops, restaurants, cafes, tavernas, and night clubs is incredible. Even in the midst of a quiet area of back streets you’ll come across a restaurant, candy shop, or boutique. Intermingled with the streets of homes and shops are a large number of churches and chapels. Mykonos Island has reportedly 365 churches and chapels.
